We drove from Vegas back to Phoenix on Sunday. That night, Matt and I impulsively decided to take a day trip to Flagstaff the next morning. Why? One word ... SNOW! A big storm passed through Flagstaff over the weekend, dumping fresh snow in Flagstaff and the surrounding area. Audrey has been asking to see snow all winter, and my hubby LOVES the stuff. Realizing we might not have another opportunity to play in the snow this winter, we packed up the essentials, loaded the girls and the dogs in the van, and drove 2 hours north to Flagstaff.
Our first stop (after lunch) was Ft. Tuthill. This little gem is a military recreation area, complete with cabins and camping. During the winter, you can rent tubes and go snow tubing down a groomed run. We bundled up the girls and hit the snow. Unfortunately, little Claire got off to a rough start. She didn't really know how to walk in her snow suit, and she face planted into a big snow drift. Oops. She wasn't hurt, but she wasn't too happy after that, either. She did enjoy watching Audrey snow tube, though, and Claire even got a chance to tube (riding with Mommy). We spent almost two hours playing in the snow. Audrey began tubing on her own. Matt and I had a blast, too!
After our tubing adventure, we drove up to Flagstaff's ski area to peek around. Audrey loved watching the skiers and snow boarders, and she kept asking when she could have a turn! We grabbed pizza at a local pizza joint downtown and began our drive back to Phoenix. It was a GREAT day.
