When Sleep is Elusive...

We are now nearing the end of Matt's TDY.  If all goes well, we will see him this weekend!  I can't tell you how excited I am to have Matt return, and I know our daughters feel the same way.
Last night was one of the craziest, sleep-deprived nights I have experienced since Claire's birth.  I was pinging back and forth between the two girls' rooms from around 11 p.m. until 4 a.m.  I stopped counting how many times I had been out of bed after my 7th trip to the other side of our home.  Audrey kicked off my night time marathon when she started crying, saying she needed to go potty.  I was completely freaked out when she started crying in the bathroom, asking for her real mommy.  I told her I was Mommy, and she cried again, saying I was not her real mommy.  I picked her up and put her back in bed.  Before we reached 4 a.m., she would get out of bed crying four more times!  Claire also joined in this fun little game, waking up almost every hour.  I wish I could say I knew why they woke up so often . . . It was just one of those nights.
So, how did I survive the day?  Only by God's grace AND a few too many cartoons. (And two big cups of coffee).  We were all up by 7 a.m., but Claire took her first nap at 8:30 a.m.  As soon as she went to sleep, I put on some of Audrey's favorite cartoons, laid down on the couch, and promptly took a light nap.  Audrey was content to cuddle with me or color on her coloring book.  That brief nap saved our day.  And no, I don't feel guilty about letting Audrey watch more than her share of cartoons today.  I would have been ridiculous as a parent without that morning rest!
Will this night be better?  I can only pray that we'll all get a better night's sleep.

Claire loves rolling over onto her tummy and grabbing for her toys.
Big sister Audrey decided to show Claire exactly how to grab and chew on the toys!
