We had a wonderful surprise a few weeks ago. Matt received a call from his Uncle Dave and Aunt Janet. Uncle Dave and Aunt Janet live in Florida, but they were on a trip out west and would be passing through Phoenix for a few days. Could we meet? Of course we can! God had graciously given Matt some space in his work schedule, allowing Matt to show Uncle Dave and Aunt Janet around Luke AFB. We were also able to join them for a dinner one Wednesday night. Of course, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little nervous about the dinner. No, not because I was nervous to see Uncle Dave and Aunt Janet. I was nervous because we weren't leaving our house until after 6 pm, and we were taking Audrey and Claire with us. You see, my girls are of the age where eating out is a little like playing Russian Roulette. Sometimes all is well and we have a great experience. Other times, I leave the restaurant swearing I will NEVER eat out with the girl again until they are over the age of ten! But, I venture out in spite of my own fears, whispering a little prayer as we go. (Yes, God wants me to pray for the little things like dinner out, too!) And the prayers worked. We at at the Yard House, and the staff put us in a large, horse-shoe shaped booth. Perfect. Little bodies were not constrained to stiff seats. The girls walked around the interior of the booth, drew on their overly large children's menus, and enjoyed some delicious kid's fare. The adults were able to catch up and enjoy our few hours together. It was a fantastic evening, and we were sad to say goodbye to Uncle Dave and Aunt Janet. Sometimes it seems as if we never see family for as long as or as often as we'd like, but we're thankful for the time we do have together.
