Toward the end of October, Audrey and I drove down to Charleston, SC, to visit our good friends, the Fishers. Garrett and Carlin have been our friends since we met them in Valdosta, Georgia, nearly six years ago. Garrett is also currently deployed, so Carlin and I were excited to hang out and enjoy some much needed girl time. In addition, the Fishers have an adorable little one, Caroline, who is just two months younger than Audrey. While we were visiting, Audrey and Caroline enjoyed playing together and learning the finer points of the concept of "sharing"! The girls were fast friends, but they also challenged each other because their personalities are so similar. We spent a morning exploring the Charleston Children's Museum, where the girls got to shop, explore a castle, paint, draw, and play with water.
Carlin and I were also able to have a wonderful moms' night out, thanks to Carlin's baby-sitter. We ate dinner downtown at a restaurant called "The Coast" and then embarked on the Charleston Tour of Homes and Gardens. The tour was very impressive, despite the fact that it rained the entire night. Carlin and I spent the evening marveling at the homes and the cathedral we saw, some of which dated back to the late 1700's, and laughing as we ran through the rain from home to home. By the end of our tour, we actually waded through knee deep water to view the final home. As we left the historic downtown area, we noticed that many streets were closed due to flooding.
Audrey and I are thankful to have friends such as the Fishers, and we truly enjoyed our time in Charleston. I have posted a few more photos of Audrey and Caroline. As seen in the first picture below, we caught Audrey and Caroline trying to sneak under the safety gate upstairs. Caroline had never tried such a feat until Audrey showed her that it was possible.
